Our life’s journey can be filled with detours and bumps along the way. Much like how we turn to a GPS to help us find the best route when traveling, therapy can guide you in the right direction.
Services
Therapy comes in many forms and finding the right style for your needs is key. I offer a variety of services: Individual Therapy, Couple’s Therapy, and Sex Therapy. I also provide co-parenting counseling. Sessions can be in-person or via video. I have a special interest in working with adults and couples. Please learn more about the different modes offered below.
Individual Therapy
Individual Therapy offers a safe and comfortable environment to explore life’s bumps and detours. These bumps may be brought on by a transition in life causing upset to your normal state or it could be a long struggle with anxiety or depression.
Therapy is not a place to be schooled on what you are doing “wrong” in life nor is it seeking answers from an “expert.” Our lives and experiences are unique to each of us and success is when we discover coping strategies that help us effectively manage our life’s stressors. As a therapist I view my job as a guide, offering a different perspective in viewing and understanding issues that can be used in discovering your solution.
Life is full of external and internal factors that can be barriers preventing us from reaching goals and aspirations. Individual therapy provides space for you to openly explore solutions that fit your values, and beliefs, and move you in the direction you want to go in life.
Couple’s Therapy
In Couple’s Therapy, both you and your partner can deepen your emotional bond. Couple’s Therapy is beneficial for every stage of a relationship. It can assist in learning how to meld a life together, to learning how to navigate new challenges brought on by stage of life changes.
As a couple’s therapist, I view my role as a facilitator to assist with improving the effectiveness of communication within the relationship and bring to awareness past experiences that may be influencing the relationship. As time progresses in a relationship, it is easy for partners to fall into traps such as mind-reading. Couple’s Therapy is a space to reconnect as a couple and address ideals and expectations that are causing barriers within the relationship.
Co-Parenting Therapy
Co-parenting therapy is a different type of couple’s therapy. The goal of co-parenting therapy is to assist parents in navigating parental roles and expectations for their shared child or children. Parenting is a difficult role to navigate and this difficulty can be compounded by the hurt of a break-up. Co-parenting therapy provides a space to address unresolved issues between partners to help facilitate a healthy environment to parent effectively for the benefit of the child.
Sex Therapy
In Sex Therapy, you can explore and define what sexuality means for you. Sex therapy does not solely focus on the functional aspect of sex (i.e., arousal or orgasm problems, sexual pain, or rapid ejaculation), but also deals with the emotional and psycho-social aspects of sexuality. Our sexuality grows and changes over time.
Sex therapy can be a space to learn how to talk to your children about sex in a manner that fits their developmental stage, to explore what it means to be a sexual being, to navigate dysfunctions or health concerns that create barriers to your sexual expression. While our media is saturated with sexual images, it is still a taboo subject for many. Sex Therapy provides a safe, comfortable environment to explore this part of your identity and build confidence in your identity.
Sex Positive
Sex-positive simply means respect for the countless, wonderfully unique forms of human sexual expression. Sex-positive therapy plays an important role, especially in Western culture, where the traditional view of sex is overwhelmingly negative and hierarchical.
Sex-positive therapy affirms your sexuality, without making it the sole focus of your treatment. You can work out issues you have around sexuality, without being pressured to change your identity, or feeling that how you feel is “wrong.”
As a sex-positive therapist, I am here to help you with more than just issues directly related to sex. Sometimes focusing too narrowly on sex leaves out other important aspects of your history and emotional profile.
Supervision for MFT Registered Interns
In addition to therapy services, I am also recognized by the Florida Department of Health as a Qualified Clinical Supervisor for registered interns seeking licensure as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). Clinical supervision is a space for the supervisee to review cases, explore theories and techniques, navigate self-care needs, and prepare for licensure exams.
I am also a Qualified Supervisor for clinicians pursuing the Florida Sex Therapy Certificate under Florida Rule 64Ba-7.004.
